At this point with SPMC, Opera, Gmail, GTA Vice City working on my Fire TV it's more than proved it's worth - £79 for a TV centred Android box is good value. But the game is fully playable, and minor niggles aside this port works well. But playing point and click stuff with a pad isn't great at the best of times anyway!Īnyway I've only tested with COMI so far, gonna try BASS, LOOM and a few other titles from my collection later today. Using the analogue stick fully pushed in one direction is jerky and you can't long hold the A button to select things on the COMI piece o' eight verb wheel. The Xbox 360 pad does work, but not well.I've been getting round this by using the MENU button on the remote so I can get the load/save menu. Pressing F5 on the keyboard in game doesn't do anything. The app appears to underscan so there's a black box around everything which presumably can't be changed.I've been getting round it by pressing escape on the keyboard a few times which gives you the standard load/add game screen which works fine. After the loading bar you get presented with a black screen. It's running the latest firmware so games can be imported to ScummVM from a FAT32 formatted external USB drive, handy because the Fire TV has limited internal space and games like Curse Of Monkey Island are well over 1GB. I am happy to report that side loading ScummVM onto it produces workable results. It's hooked up to a powered 4-port Belkin USB hub so I can have a FLIRC dongle, Xbox 360 wired gamepad, Logitech wireless mouse/keyboard set and external USB2 HDD connected at once. Have no interest in it's function as a Prime streaming device, bought it as a replacement for my six year old HTPC to run SPMC and for the other bits like YouTube. I have an Amazon Fire TV, bought it about two weeks ago. I can keep using the same remote I've been using for years and it works perfectly.I don't know if there's a thread about this already, but here's my experience. Given that the support for the PS4 is limited (which is Sony's fault.not Logitechs.I have nothing against Logitech), it occurred to me that it was easier to return the $130 remote and simply plug a $20 IR dongle into the FireTV and be done with it. Technically it works, but functionality within different apps is spotty, at best. Unfortunately, controlling the PS4 is crap. Controlling the FireTV worked flawlessly.

I figured that with the addition of the FireTV it was time to upgrade the remote, add support for Bluetooth devices, and be able to add in the PS4 along with the FireTV. I ordered a Logitech Harmony Companion which is their Hub (bluetooth+IR) and a paired remote.

The first part of this process was simple enough: Alexa is actually an installable app for your Windows 10 PC, and it can respond to the Alexa wake-word.

I have a PS4, which the remote does not work with, of course, plus the Fire TV. His channel focuses on automation and voice control, and he wanted to turn his PC into a full fledged Echo Show, and just like on a Fire TV, he wanted to be able to launch apps with his voice. I use it to control a TV, AV receiver, PS3 (via Bluetooth-IR adapter), DVR, and old DVD player. Yeah, the Harmony I have been using for years is IR only.

Other than the home button (which is a biggie), the rest of the Flirc/Harmony combo seems to work flawlessly.Īnyone know how to get the home button working? I don't know if that makes any difference, but if there is some other way that I should have added it as a device, please let me know. I ended up selecting 'Media Center PC' as a device type, and then 'Flirc' as the manufacturer, and typed in 'FireTV' for the 'model'. These Amazon Fire TV remotes are supported: the original Amazon Fire TV Remote (Bluetooth. So I can navigate around and start apps and everything works normally (FF, Rewind, Play, Pause, etc.).but I can't get out of the app and get back to the home screen of the Fire TV.įor what it's worth (and if it matters), I wasn't sure how to add the Flirc as a device to my Harmony. Flirc and IOSPIRIT have teamed up to deliver an integrated software and hardware experience and deliver new features that werent possible before. The blue light flashes on the Fire TV to indicate that it has received a command, but nothing happens.

The bottom line is that nothing happens when I hit the 'home' button on the Harmony. I mapped the 'home' function to a button, and even put it on it's own 'soft key' on the screen (I'm using a Harmony 770). I mapped all of the functions to what seems like the 'common sense' buttons (mapped DirectionLeft to the left direction button, etc.) Everything seems to work perfectly EXCEPT the 'home' function/button. I just plugged a Flirc IR receiver into our FireTV and configured it as a device on our Harmony remote.
